Grant Writing Workshops

  • Presented on documentation project management for grant applications with BCEOHRN Mentorship Coordinator, Joann Yuan, in a Lunch and Learn workshop for the BCEOHRN Student and New Professionals Special Interest Group.   • Presented a half-day grant-writing workshop in collaboration with Vancouver Island Health Authority, Fraser Health, and BC Rural and Remove Health Research Network (BCRRHRN): Presented in Victoria and also made available via WebEx, January 29, 2009.  Watch and listen to the MP4 recording (365 MB; 3.5 hrs) of this presentation.
  • Presented a 1/2-day grant-writing workshop in collaboration with Thompson Rivers University: Friday, July 24, 2009, live at Thompson Rivers University (Kamloops) and via WebEx.

  Member Assistance

  • Providing guidance to BCEOHRN researchers: reviewing research proposals, networking with colleagues of relevant backgrounds, alerting members of appropriate Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and assisting in the development of research grant proposals for graduate funding
  • Locating funding sources for BCEOHRN members interested in developing projects related to the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games
  • Assisting members with forming research teams, and identifying reviewers to prepare successful grant applications.
  • Reviewed and provided feedback on the UBC Grant Facilitation website funded by the BCEOHRN and the Health Research Research Office (HeRRO). The site was launched in September 2009.
  • Provided WebEx support for a Grant Facilitators Seminar delivered live from UBC. UBC-Okanagan, St. Paul’s Hospital, and other groups connected via WebEx. This seminar provided information on how to use the UBC Grant Facilitation website as well as information about useful technological tools such as RSS feeds, Google Alerts, and Delicious.   Agency Assistance

  • Providing feedback to agencies and organizations on the content, structure, and formatting of RFPs, application guidelines and forms to improve clarity and make the grant writing process more user friendly

 Funding Opportunities Databases

  • Compiling a list of grant funding databases for BCEOHRN members to conduct their own searches using a variety of searching techniques (e.g., keyword, sponsor).
  • Use the Grant Funding Databases

 Rapid Response Program

  • Assisting in the development of the BCEOHRN’s Rapid Response Program:
    • Matching Requests for Applications (RFAs) with BCEOHRN members using the member database
    • Alerting members of RFAs and assisting with team building

    • Learn about:
      • how to search for grant funding
      • getting started with small grants
      • the anatomy of a grant application
      • common concerns of grant reviewers
      • building partnerships
